Group Novels

I read The Heaven Shop for our group novels. After seeing presentations about other books I think that if i had to choose another book to read I would've chosen stones. It looked like a very interesting book about friendship and saving spirits from bad spirits. I think that it would be a kind of book that I would enjoy reading. I think it also helped that the group presenting made it interesting.

The Heaven Shop#5

During the last part of the book Junie comes to her grandmas and the two are finally together again. Junie and Binti go on a little adventure to Monkey Bay to find Kwasi. Upon there arrival they find out Kwasi is in jail, after they get him out they head back to there grandmothers. Its very hard for there grandma to be able to support all the children, Kwasi, Junie and Binti decided to re-open The Heaven Shop just now in a new location. They also found out that Junie has AIDS. Overall i really liked this book I thought it was very well written. I would definitly recommend this book to kids our age, I do however think it is geared towards girls.

The Heaven Shop #4

During the 4/5 part of the Heaven Shop Binti lives with her grandma. She meets her cousin Memory and she can do everything just a little bit better then Binti does. She is kind of envious because she isn't as good with the chores as Memory. If I was Binti I would feel sad because her life was so good before and now she lives in a shack with 12 kids. I hope for Binti's sake she finds her brother and sister soon.

The Heaven Shop #2

So far this book has been very good, better then I thought. Lately in the book Binti's dad has become very ill. So sick that Junie and Binti had to stay home from school to take care of him. One day the owner of the coffin shop near by came over and helped Junie and Binti take there dad to the hospital. Soon after he sadly died. I feel bad for the children because there aunts and uncles arn't treating them very nicely because they think that since there dad died of AIDS that they have it to.

Class Blog # 13

Now that I am wise and well educated about life in high school here are some thing I wish I knew in grade 8. In grade 8 it seems like life in high school is a scary and frighting place and its right around the corner! I was the average grade 8 didn't really know what high school was going to bring for me. I was scared about the classes, homework, teachers and meeting new people. Although some people will try to tell you scary stories about initiation and cafeteria tables some of these stories may have been true but usually the are just over rated. Even though the first couple of days are scary it will get better. Its so much better then public school you get to eat in the cafeteria go to school dances and watch football games. I no your just in grade 8 thinking well I have a while before I go but trust me it sneaks up pretty fast, but high school is going to be some of the best times of your life.

Class Blog #12 Bring your kid to work day

I thought that overall bring you kid to work day went fairly well for me. I went to VMS and shadowed the job of a gym teacher. It went quite well I learned alot about what its like being a gym teacher. After spending the day at VMS I don't think I would want to be a gym teacher. Little kids screaming and going crazy all day while whipping balls at each other isn't really for me. It was nice to have a break from my regualr school day and get to experience something new.

#9 Most Dangerous Game

In the story Most Dangerous Game we are introduced to a character who is a little strange. He is a big fan of hunting but when that becomes a very little challenge to trap and kill his prey he moves onto something a little different. Instead of hunting animals he hunts humans. I think this guy is very twisted and has very little thought about others. I think that what he is doing is very unjust but there is nobody on the island to stop him from his unusual games.

#8 A Knights Tale

I think that the movie has a good hero outline. As a child something special happened etc. I think the movie demonstrates good friendship qualities instead of keeping the money for himself he paid for his friend to be let go from loan sharks. The main charcter sets out and has a goal and shows everyone he will do whatever it takes to accomplish it. He is very determined. I liked this movie alot and think that the actors were amazing.

The Kite Runner#8

After staying hide for a while to stay safe Amir and Baba decided to move to the 'new world' as known as America. There life will have gone from extraordinary and fabulous to living in a apartment in Los Angelos. Everything for them has changed dramatically. They aren't the same rich and well known people the were back in Afghanistan. If I was Amir i would feel sad, because having to leave your house without any of your things would be really hard. He still thinks about Hassan and wonders were he is. I find this book confusing and hard to understand.

The Kite Runner #7

After the nasty trick Amir pulled on Hassan, Hassan and his father decided to leave they no longer felt welcome in Amir and Baba's household. Baba begged him to stay but there was nothing he could do to make them change there decision. Soon after they left a war broke out in Afghanistan and Amir and Baba were forced to leave and find safety. The took a oil truck to a safer place were there wasn't so much fighting. Amir still thinks about Hassan and wonders what would've happened if he had of stuck up for him. If i was Amir i would feel bad to because he didn't just lose his servant he lost one of his best friends to.

The Kite Runner#6

So far the story has been somewhat confusing. Amir feels so bad about what happened to Hassan but doesn't want to stand up for him. The only thing he can think of that will eliminate his problem is for Hassan to leave. When he brings up the thought to Baba he reacts rather badly. He has to take matters into his own hands. Baba ought Amir a watch for his birthday and very nice expensive watch, Amir had a plan. Amir decided to hide the watch and some Afghan bills under Hassans bed making it look like he stole his birthday gifts. I'm liking the book more and more but I still am finding it a little hard to follow.

The Kite Runner #5

So far the book is alright, its almost Amir's birthday and BaBa is throwing a huge party since he is proud of him for doing so well in the kite running competition. Amir really doesn't want a party because he feels guilty about what happened to Hassan and feels like he doesn't deserve a party. Seeing as it is not up to him BaBa has it anyways he gets lots and lots of gifts and money. The only gift he really likes is the one his BaBa's friend gave him it was a tan leather notebook where he could write his stories. Amir will never find use for any of the other gifts or money. If I was Amir I would probably feel bad for not sticking up for Hassan.

The Kite Runner #4

The Kite Runner is getting good Amir and Hassan are in a Kite Running competition. Amir is concentrated really hard on winning because he wants to feel loved by Baba because even thought Baba never said it Amir thinks that Baba still blames Amir for his wifes death. Amir finally wins by being the last kite flying. Hassan chases after the last kite that was caught. When he finally catches it and is going to head back three kids start bullying him and threatens him unless he gives them the kite. Amir was to scared to say anything or do anything so he just watched. If i was Amir i would feel bad because I didn't help my friend but at the same time I understand becuase in certain situations it can very difficult.

The Kite Runner#3

So far this book has been fairly deep and talks about alot of issues that are highly important to the story. Amir and Hassan just had there first kite running competition. Hassan has a natural instinct to no where the kite is going to fall he is one of the best. As soon as the kite starts to fly away everyone runs all over trying to find the kite but Hassan knows exactly where its going to land. I think Amir is a little bit jealous of Hassans ability to do this. I think that he wishes he could do this to impress Baba.

The Kite Runner#2

This book is getting more interesting. When Amir was reading to Hassan by there blueberry tree three bullies came up and started bothering them. They were teasing Hassan because he is a hazara which aren't liked very much among the Afghanistan's people. The bullies threatened Hassan and Amir. If i was Hassan I wouldn't feel so good because Amir doesnt stick up for him very much and doesn't treat him like a real friend and only hangs out with him when his other friends can't. I'm excited to see whats going to happen with Amir and Hassan's friendship.

The Kite Runner #1

I have just recently started reading the kite runner it is about a boy in Kabul named Amir. He is the son of the very rich and powerful Baba. Him and his servant are good friends, his servant is not seen as an equal though because he is a Hazara. Amir and Hassan do everything together, Hassan enjoys when Amir reads to him. So far I have really enjoyed this book and am excited to keep reading more of it.

Gr. 9

I think the song "Grade 9" by the Barenaked Ladies describes what grade nines really feel on the first day of high school. A little bit of excitment and a little nervous, as you come to those big doors you stop and realize this is it my first day. You scramble to find your first class and get there just in time, after u asked one of the scary older kids. You have to walk in infront of the whole class they all stare and your stomach flops, you take a seat near the fron thats all thats left. Before you no it its lunch, where to go the cafeteria, home, outside, hallways? If the cafeteria what table with what kind of people? Your lost in a world of kids just like you. The day comes to a close you look back on the day and think hmm maybe i shouldn't of got myself all worked up it wasn't to bad.

Mella

I think its amazing how the story of Mella is so much like the Lion King, the stories are so simalar but told diffrently. Mella is an amazing story about how one girl with such courage, and bravery. Her Dad is dying and the only one who can save him is the python healer. But every person who goes to the python healer he usually eats for dinner. She loves her Dad so she faces her fear and lets the python healer wrap around her and she has to walk all the way back to her village where her father the king is dieing, and the python heals her father. As a reward of her bravery the python lets her take whatever gold treasure she wants from his cave. When Mella's older brothers find out about the treasure she warns the python healer, and he scared them off, they now both live way out in the jungle. I think this story teaches people to go for what the believe in and be brave.
